“Beauty and aesthetics should go hand in hand with practicality and function”, says architect Honrado “Rodin” Fernandez, Jr., whose work ranges from residential and commercial to institutional projects. He believes that the task of a designer is to provide clients with utmost personal care and satisfy them by providing service that goes beyond designing. Rodin finds inspiration from his father, artist and architect Honrado Fernandez, former dean of the University of the Philippines College of Architecture.
Rodin favors a modern yet functional design style in his work. “Everything has a purpose and anything that has no purpose should be removed or excluded from the design”, he states. He also believes that landscapes should be one with the environment and recommends that only local plants well adapted to a particular site be used. His dream projects would be those related to travel and tourism, such as airports, transport hubs and resorts.
