A holder of two college degrees and a Masters degree in Architecture from the University of the Philippines, John O’yek believes that perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away. Growing from his prior admiration of great architects in designing, John’s wisdom is rightly aligned to the appreciation of the craft and not the craftsman. “Before, I was inspired by great and well-known architects, now I focus more on their works. Many design professionals may not be well-known, but have laid innovative and novel design ideas”, he says. For John, the greatest challenge of a green trend in building is the price. However, after the challenging initial investment, a sustainable return of investment awaits the intelligent client. John counsels potential clients to trust their senses when planning. “The aim of designing and creating spaces is to have an atmosphere of comfort that would consequently keep the user indoors to spend more time with the family”, he says.
