As the current Dean of the College of Home Economics at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Adelaida “Lady” Mayo design philosophy centers on intelligent space planning that takes into consideration the requirements of the users. “I design spaces by visualizing myself as the user, and how the space will be able to enhance my well-being”, she states. She draws inspiration from the cultural background, habits, spiritual beliefs and idiosyncrasies of the users, and synthesizes them into a meaningful design. With her scholastic background, Lady focuses on sustainability. She specializes in creating functional yet homey residential spaces and dreams of designing children’s shelters and homes for the elderly. The interior design students of Batch 2010 from UP Diliman redesigned the Philippine Children’s Medical Center.
