With almost two decades of solid design experience under his belt, Stephen “Steve” Sy knows the value of good design. Graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman and a top notcher in the 1989 licensure examinations, Steve has worked with various design firms overseas such as HaigoShen and Associates in Taiwan and Nikken Sekkei Architects in Japan. He believes that a space should be able to inspire, inform, challenge and engage its users. “Apart from adding value to a property, good design renders a good feeling”, he says.
Steve travels a lot in order to keep up with the changing times and the latest trends. He also finds inspiration from music and culture and admires the form of both Classical and Pop Arts. His personal style leans toward contemporary European and Scandinavian designs. For 2010, Steve predicts that designs will be more global as there will be more adaptive reusing and re-purposing. Outdoors will become part of the interiors and homes will be equipped with energy-efficient control systems.
Steve advises future home-owners to work with an architect that has your best interests in mind. “A good architect has a solution that meets your needs and aspirations and strives to exceed your expectations”, he says.
